First gathering the blossoms is labor intensive as the Neroli blossoms must be hand picked, and it takes vast quantities of the tender Neroli blossom to distill even small amounts of the oil, Neroli pure essential oil is extremely expensive. It takes about one ton of Neroli blossoms to make a single quart of the pure essential oil. Ideally the oil is distilled immediately after harvesting, and so must be very near the point of harvest. Neroli oil does not keep well and has a short shelf life compared to other floral oils.
