I visited Nicki in her garden paradise in Eugene, Oregon this Summer Solstice week-end (June 20-21). We were celebrating Nicki’s 66th birthday which was on June 19th with a traditional sweat lodge ceremony. It was my first ever traditional sweat lodge experience. I felt so honored to have the incredible opportunity and great blessing to have Nicki, who has conducted traditional sweat lodge ceremonies for the past 24 years, initiate me into the sacred sweat lodge located on her property which has been in use for more than 25 years in that very same spot!
I entered the lodge with the intention of dying to my old self, and releasing any obstacles to realizing my Divine purpose in this life. I had anticipated my experience with trust, openness and excitement, and was absolutely crushed when, a few moments into my first round of sweats, I felt overwhelmed by panic and a desperation to exit the lodge FAST!!
As I leaned against the outside of the lodge and vicariously drank in the pulse and rhythms of those inside as they chanted, I felt our spirits join!
After the first round ended I re-entered the lodge still with much trepidation, but determined to face my fears. Nicki told me to shut my eyes tight, so I didn’t notice when the lodge door was shut, and it became pitch black inside. Immediately after shutting my eyes I saw a bright blue sky with an eagle soaring in it. I told Nicki what I saw. She laughed, and told me her Spirit name was Blue Eagle! I knew this was a message from Spirit, and medicine for courage. Then I heard the words, “It’s okay to die.” Then I thought, “I can do death. It’s a good day to die.” After facing my fear of death I settled down, and was okay.
Into the third round of sweats, the Healing Sweat, Nicki performed a healing ceremony on me which was for everyone present in the lodge. After we finished the healing round we learned from Mark Halbert (Nicki’s husband) who was tending and heating stones for the fire, that a doe had come up to the lodge and pressed its nose against the tarps, a magical and wonderful sign, and a sweet gift from Spirit!
During our time in the sweat lodge we each prayed as a group, and individually. There were many prayers of gratitude, and for blessings of peace, grace, and healing, for All of Our Relations, for Egypt and the Egyptian Neteru, and to open our hearts, mind, and souls to our Divine Purpose. Uranus Retrograde at :37am PDT on July 1st at 26° Pisces until December 2nd the planet of rebellion and change turns within in its quest for freedom giving birth to significant breakthroughs in the area where Uranus is located in your astro chart. Mercury moves into Cancer on July 3rd for a two week stay until July 18th when we are inclined to open our hearts and make warm connections with others, expressing our feelings and needs more feely.
Full Moon at 2:21am PDT on Tuesday July 7th at 15° Capricorn. Since the Cancer New Moon we’ve been in a time of healing as unresolved emotional issues around security have risen to the surface for conscious integration. With the Capricorn Full Moon we have an opportunity to drop immature, unproductive behavior, and get down to business. The Full Moon links in a favorable trine with Saturn, Capricorn’s ruling planet, and we are granted the strength and discipline necessary to achieve our purpose in both public and private domains.
Jupiter (Expansive, Optimistic) and Neptune (Inspiration) Conjunct at 2:08am on Friday, July 10, the second of three conjunctions in close aspect with Chiron (the wounded healer). These are the most expansive, optimistic, inspirational, and healing aspects in astrology. Astrologer Mark Husson says this is one of the most auspicious alignments in astrology, and interprets this conjunction as, “Absolute Success,” saying to use this time to start new ventures of all kinds. The first exact conjunction occurred on May 27. This second conjunction gives us a chance to release false hopes and assumptions, and inspires us with realistic dreams. The third and final conjunction that occurs on December 21 reveals any remaining illusions, and infuses us with fresh inspiration and practical dreams for our future. The downside of this conjunction is a tendency to escapism.
